“Buddy” got real animated as he was talking to me.
Buddy” was actually telling me what he wanted for Christmas. Something about “Trainer” treats from a mfg. named Pedigree.

The real story is: I was setting up for a Christmas image and I took a practice image and this was just lucky.

Christmas Images I think you’ll enjoy…

Several evenings I went out in the Maverik RV Park that I’m staying at. I wanted to try and capture the “Spirit of Christmas” here. As I was talking to the residents here about the project, each one remarked about the images they had seen in the past that, “I don’t like looking at images that the Christmas lights are burned out and you can’t see any colors!”

Well, I created the photographs and you be the judge!

The Road Less Traveled…

If your thinking about discovering Route 66 here is some thoughts about how to make it a more pleaseable trip:
  • Plan to only drive a part of Route 66 during your “vacation”. Trying to drive all of it is probably unreasonable. Too many realignments, to many “dead ends” due to lack of maitenance etc.
  • Buy A couple of books to plan your trip:
    • The EZ66 GUIDE for Travelers This book ROCKS! It has turn by turn instructions, side trips, warnings about bad pieces of Route 66, warnings about upcoming gift shops ;-] etc. $16.95 GET IT BEFORE YOU START THE TRIP!
    • Another is: IMAGES of 66 Its a book of a lot of the images you’ll see. You can take your camera but you won’t need to take a picture of everything you see on Route 66. You can concentrate on driving or the history of Route 66 vs. trying to take a picture of everything you see.
  • Plan to get lost. Let me say that again… Plan to get lost. Admittedly, I didn’t have the books before I started the trip. I did have GPS however. Later in the trip, I did have the EZ66 GUIDE. It didn’t make any difference. I still got lost.
  • Gasoline. Gas costs a lot differently across the Route 66. I paid as low as 1.99/Gal. and as high as $2.80/Gal.
  • Here’s a suggestion on how to raise your EFFECTIVE gas mileage: If you have a laptop computer get Microsoft’s Streets and Trips GPS keeps you from staying lost for
very long. You know immediately when your off course. You press a button (F3) and it tells you how to get back on course.

Have a fun trip and let me know how it went!

We (Buddy and I) finally made it to our destination, Phoenix, AZ.

As you can see, this was one of my first Arizona shots, which is what that cactus looks like - shot in the middle!

I had a DUH! moment today. Kind of embarrassed to talk about it. But, Arizona doesn’t have a lot of water. And they use reverse-osmosis of sea water to get their drinking water. I can remember my school days, that it was said, it was too expensive and too long a process to get any real volume from… Things always change…

Buddy and I are now ready for a good rest…

No picture, no snappy writing (if it ever was), nothing except Are finally stopped in Mesa, AZ in an RV park. Finally hooked up to electric, water and sewer. Its been a while since we had all 3 of those at one time.

We’re glad to have driven what we could of Route 66. We missed a turnoff here or there, sometimes there was no turnoff where it should have been but, it was fun and we got some good pictures (I think).

The storm that just went through the midwest we were just ahead of it. It got down to 5°. Things froze that I didn’t know could freeze. And things froze when I had winterized them. I can tell you, if you’ve never been in 5° weather, you’ve never been in 5° weather… There’s nothing just like it!

Now, where did I put that TV control?
